WHAT YOU FEEL
IS NOT WHERE IT STARTS
Physical pain, restriction and mental overload often share the same origin:
nervous system dysregulation.
Many approaches treat symptoms – such as pain, movement restrictions or ongoing stress - but rarely address how the nervous system regulates movement, stress and recovery.
Real change begins where these patterns are formed – not where they appear.
When body and mind
keep sending the same signals
Many active and health-conscious individuals experience recurring issues –
even when they seem to be doing everything right
Persistant Pain
Recurring pain or tension despite regular exercise, stretching or treatments.
Pain is not always a sign of damage – it is a signal generated by the brain, often as a protective response when the body lacks a sense of safety and control.
Many approaches focus on the area where pain is felt – trying to fix muscles or joints – while the underlying issue often lies in how the nervous system processes movement and sensory information.
By restoring clarity and a sense of safety within the system, movement becomes possible again – and the need for pain can decrease.
Restriction
A feeling of stiffness, limited mobility or lack of control in certain movements.
Often this is not simply a structural limitation, but a result of how the nervous system regulates and restricts movement when something feels uncertain or unsafe.
Rather than forcing mobility or pushing through resistance, the key lies in restoring clarity and control within the system.
As the nervous system gains confidence in movement, restriction can resolve – and freedom returns.

Overthinking & Mental Overload
A constantly active mind, inner tension or emotional overwhelm – even when trying to slow down.
Many approaches focus on mindset, positive thinking or cognitive strategies – which can be helpful, but often only create temporary relief when the underlying nervous system remains dysregulated.
Without addressing these deeper patterns, the same thoughts and emotional states tend to return.
Fatigue & Brain Fog
Low energy, lack of clarity or constant tiredness – even with enough rest or sleep.
This state is often not just about recovery, but a sign that the nervous system is overwhelmed and begins to downregulate as a protective response.
When the system lacks a sense of safety, it may reduce energy, focus and overall output – not as a failure, but as a way to cope.
By restoring balance and regulation, energy and clarity can gradually return.
The idea behind
innerTide.lab
innerTide.lab is a focused extension of my Holistic Health Coaching work, which integrates physical training, nutrition, mental health and systemic coaching.
While my broader approach combines all of these elements, innerTide.lab focuses specifically on nervous system regulation - through neurocentric training, movement therapy and life coaching.
It addresses the underlying mechanism behind recurring physical and mental challenges – including persistent pain, movement restrictions and mental overload – by working with how the nervous system regulates movement, stress and recovery.
The project was created to bring this work into more flexible environments –working with expats, surfers, digital nomads and other active people in Portugal.
I am Marcus Cyliax, specialising in holistic physical and mental health, with a particular focus on nervous system regulation and its impact on movement, performance and overall wellbeing.
